The patrol performance of 41 female New York City police officers was compared to that of 41 of their male colleagues in 1975-76 by length of time on force, patrol experience, and the type of precinct. Direct observation by police and civilians was the principle method. The study, intended primarily for police administrators, concludes with suggestions for improving the performance of both male and female police officers.
