Probation Service Work on Bail with the Crown Prosecution Service

Overview

This is a 1987 interim report on the "Diversion from Custody and Prosecution" Probation Initiative, a project in which Vera assisted the Association of Chief Officers of Probation over a two-year period in the design implementation and monitoring of a series of small pilot schemes organized to develop the work of the British Probation Services with the newly-formed Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS, formed in 1985 under the Prosecution of Offenses Act, established the CPS under the direction of the Director of Public Prosecutions as a single unified Crown Prosecution Service with responsibility for all public prosecutions in England and Wales. It started operating in 1986.
