July 1977Early Case Assessment An Evaluation
Overview
This 1975 Vera report evaluates the effectiveness of the Early Case Assessment Program, which stationed senior assistant district attorneys in the police Complaint Rooms in three New York City boroughs to review felony cases and to speed up case processing and reduce pretrial and witness appearance costs. It concludes that the project has been successful in screening out weak cases and speeding dispositions, resulting in savings of court resources.
