Shahd Elbushra
Shahd Elbushra works as a program associate with Vera’s Beyond Jails initiative. In her role, she supports initiatives that help decrease jail populations and invest in racially equitable community-based measures for public safety.
Before joining Vera, Shahd was a graduate student at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs contributing to policy projects addressing statewide housing inequity, voting access, and democracy in Texas. She also led a research team examining childcare subsidy rates and access to quality childcare for low-income families throughout Texas. She taught fifth grade in East Fort Worth for two years through Teach For America.
Shahd holds a BS in sociology with a minor in psychology from Texas A&M University and an MPA from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
