Vera Institute of Justice

Mariam was a senior program associate with Vera’s Greater Justice New York initiative, which seeks to end mass incarceration in New York State.

Before joining Vera, Mariam was a public defender at the Bronx Defenders for four years, where she represented people in felony and misdemeanor cases. During law school, Mariam received a Chief Judge Janet DiFiore Catalyst Fellowship for her work with the Legal Aid Society Parole Revocation Defense Unit. She also interned with Reprieve, an international human rights organization in London.

She received her JD from Syracuse University College of Law.
