Vera Institute of Justice

Joyce Tagal worked as a data scientist with Vera’s Jails Team. She helped to collect and analyze data related to mass incarceration in America, empowering actors at the local, state, and federal levels to change policies that criminalize poverty and public health, center racial equity, and shift power and resources to local communities.

Before joining Vera, Joyce worked as a researcher at the Bill Lane Center at Stanford University, looking at police reforms in suburban California. She previously worked as a policy analyst with the federal government of Malaysia and as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Joyce holds a BA in political science from Yale University and an MA in education and an MA in public policy, both from Stanford University.
