Helam Gebremariam
Helam Gebremariam’s practice at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP focuses on complex civil litigation and investigations. Ms. Gebremariam has represented a wide variety of clients, including Alcoa, Avon, DuPont, Bausch Health Companies, Merck, Minerals Technologies, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, the Board of Directors of Tesla, Warner Media, and Warner Bros. Entertainment. She joined Cravath in 2011 and was elected the first Black woman litigation partner in 2020. She is also a board member of the New York University Law Alumni of Color Association.
Ms. Gebremariam previously served as senior counsel to Deputy Attorney General Sally Q. Yates at the U.S. Department of Justice and senior counsel in the department’s Office for Access to Justice. In those roles, Ms. Gebremariam provided legal and policy analysis on issues related to indigent defense, fines and fees, bail reform, and the right to counsel.
She received a BA with departmental honors in political science from Columbia College in 2007 and a JD from New York University School of Law in 2010.
