Vera Institute of Justice

Frederick A. O. Schwarz, Jr. is senior counsel at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and chief counsel at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School. He chaired Vera’s board from 1987 to 2006. He is a board member of the Natural Resources Defense Council, having been its chair for almost 20 years. He has served as corporation counsel of New York City, chair of the New York City Campaign Finance Board, chairman of the New York City Charter Revision Commission, and chief counsel of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Schwarz was a member of Vera's Board of Trustees from 1978-1981, and joined the board again in 1987.
