Evelyn Fulbright

Evelyn Fulbright serves on the board of directors of Girls Embracing Mothers (GEM), a nonprofit founded by her daughter, attorney Brittany K. Barnett, with a primary focus of empowering girls with mothers in prison to break the cycle of incarceration. It was an 8-year prison sentence stemming out of rural East Texas that introduced Evelyn directly to the justice system and the impact of mass incarceration, specifically in the context of women in prison and their children. She knows from first-hand experience the importance of programs such as GEM and openly shares her story with others to advocate for much needed transformation within the criminal justice system. Evelyn works as a nurse specializing in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
