Angie Carpio

Angie Carpio is a senior program associate with Vera’s Beyond Jails initiative. In her work, she centers the voices of those with lived experience to develop community-based approaches that will effectively decrease jail populations while addressing racial disparities.

Before joining Vera, Angie was the director of operations and strategic advancement at exalt youth, a nonprofit that works with youth in the court system to reengage them with their education and connect them with employment opportunities. She also worked at the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, where she was involved with implementing Raise the Age legislation and closing Rikers Island jail and managed an initiative to improve safety and fairness in the school system.

Angie holds a BA in criminology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and an MS in nonprofit management and social policy from the New School. She was also a Leadership Fellow with the New York Community Trust.
