Vera Institute of Justice

Alejandro Garcia Medina was a research associate with Vera’s Advancing Universal Representation initiative. Alejandro is helped to build out data analysis and qualitative research in support of local movements advocating for government-funded deportation defense.

Prior to joining Vera, he conducted field research in Colombia on the local perceptions of the transitional justice system of the 2016 Colombian Peace Agreement. He has also interned at the Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to the United Nations, focusing on the nexus between disaster relief, climate change, and migration, and at the Office of the International Labour Organization at the UN, working in the areas of youth unemployment, migrant workers’ rights, and gender disparity.

Alejandro earned a BA in government and international affairs from Augustana University and a MS in global affairs with a specialization in human rights and international law as well as a certificate in data analytics from New York University.
