On Wednesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul delivered the State of the State, where she outlined her administration’s priorities for 2022.

The Greater Justice New York program at the Vera Institute of Justice issued the following statement in response:

“We support the vision for a safer and more equitable New York outlined by Governor Hochul today and applaud her commitment to investing in community-based, public health-centered approaches to public safety. More funding for community violence intervention programs, pretrial services, and employment support and educational opportunities for formerly incarcerated people are proven ways to shore up public safety and, in turn, allow communities to thrive. We look forward to working with Governor Hochul and the Legislature to deliver on these policies.”
