Vera Institute of Justice Responds to Court Decision to Keep Title 42 In Place
May 24, 2022 – Last Friday, a judge for the United States District Court for the Western District Court of Louisiana granted a preliminary injunction blocking the Biden administration from ending a CDC public health order known as Title 42.
The Vera Institute of Justice issued the following statement:
“Every day that Title 42 remains in effect, it denies people desperately fleeing violence, persecution, and death the right to seek asylum, while doing nothing to stop the spread of COVID-19. Instead, it allows the government to expel whomever it wants, whenever it wants, contrary to our laws. Everyone seeking asylum deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, while afforded every chance of due process. It’s time to stop playing politics with people’s lives and put an end to Title 42.”
