WASHINGTON, DC – As a campaign that champions and advocates for deportation defense for all, the Fairness to Freedom campaign issued the following statement in response to the outcome of the 2024 presidential election:
“Between the heightened immigration enforcement of Donald Trump’s first presidency and the plans outlined in Project 2025, we understand the far-reaching policy changes that lie ahead. Immigrants will be among the first to feel these impacts.
“These proposed policies aim to ramp up indiscriminate immigration enforcement, expand detention and deportation, strip individuals of vital protections, and deny people a fair hearing in immigration court. Such measures will tear families apart and uproot long standing community members from their homes and workplaces—the ripple effects of which will be felt across neighborhoods, the economy, and the nation.
“Out of our firm conviction that all people deserve to live in safety, security, and stability, we have prepared for this day and are ready to respond. Our campaign was born out of organized, cross-sector efforts to defend immigrants from deportation and its devastating consequences. Over years of mobilizing, we have built and will continue to build a strong deportation defense network that will work tirelessly to ensure that people can legally defend their right to remain in their communities and with their families.
“Our response is clear: rather than retreat in fear, we will work together using the foundation we’ve built to safeguard our communities. We will resist mass deportation, defend our neighbors, and continue to work with our partners and elected officials across the nation toward a future where no one is left alone in defense of their freedom.”

Fairness to Freedom: The Campaign for Universal Representation was launched by the National Partnership for New Americans and the Vera Institute of Justice in April 2022 with a coalition of over 200 organizations and legal service providers. The campaign’s goal is to support the passage of the Fairness to Freedom Act to establish a federal right to representation for all immigrants facing deportation.
