What is the Annual Dinner?

The Annual Dinner is a yearly gathering hosted by the Vera Institute of Justice. It is an opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and raise critical funds to drive Vera's mission forward. This year’s theme, Paths to Progress, highlights our continued commitment to paving the way for change, even in challenging times.

Where does the money raised go?

Proceeds from the Annual Dinner provide general operating support to help Vera end the overcriminalization and mass incarceration of people of color, immigrants, and people experiencing poverty. Click here to learn more about Vera’s work driving change in communities across the country.

What comes with my sponsorship?

Sponsorship packages vary by level and may include benefits such as recognition on the event program and webpage, premium seating, advertising opportunities, and branding features. What is the dress code?

We recommend cocktail or business attire for the event.

Can my dietary restrictions be accommodated?

We strive to ensure dietary needs are met. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available upon request on the night of, and halal and kosher options can be made available with advance notice. Please notify us as soon as possible if you have severe allergies.

Is the venue accessible?

The Ziegfeld Ballroom is fully wheelchair accessible, including guest elevators. The venue is also conveniently located near several accessible subway lines, including:

  • 49th Street Station (N/R/W, Uptown only)
  • 50th Street Station (C/E, Downtown only)
  • 57th St-7th Avenue Station (N/Q/R/W)
  • 59th St-Columbus Circle Station (A/C/B/D/1)

If you require additional accommodation, please reach out to events@vera.org at least two weeks prior to the event.

Are there COVID requirements in place?

We will continue to monitor local health guidelines and inform attendees of any necessary precautions before the event.

Can I make a donation to the event without attending?

Yes! We greatly appreciate any donation made in support of Vera’s Annual Dinner. Your generosity helps us continue our vital work. You can make a donation here. Every contribution brings us closer to ending mass incarceration.

Can I use my Donor Advised Fund (DAF) to pay for my gala purchase?

In line with IRS guidelines, Donor Advised Funds cannot be used to pay for tickets or tables to fundraising events, including Vera’s Annual Dinner. However, you may use a DAF to make a fully tax-deductible “non-attendee” donation to support the event. Please consult your tax advisor for guidance.

Is my purchase tax deductible?

Table and ticket purchases are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, minus $286 per seat for the cost of goods and services. Table and ticket purchases are nonrefundable but can be converted to a fully tax-deductible charitable gift to Vera. If you plan to use a donor-advised fund or family foundation to cover the purchase, please consult with your tax advisor.
